What is the National Organization on Officer-Involved Domestic Violence?

NO-OIDV is a non-profit 501(3)(c) organization that promotes awareness about OIDV and supports those who experience or deal with domestic violence perpetrated by law enforcement officers. It exists for the purpose of assisting and educating victims, victim’s families, law enforcement officers, community members and other interested parties who strive toward ending OIDV. It is only through cohesive and extensive partnering that the issues surrounding OIDV can begin to be addressed.
NO-OIDV supports training and education, victim advocacy and the development of programs to end OIDV. NO-OIDV promotes best practices in dealing with law enforcement domestic violence within law enforcement agencies at the local, state and national levels. NO-OIDV encourages department protocols based on model programs and the International Association of Chiefs of Police Officer Involved Domestic Violence Policies. Taking a stand similar to that of Family Justice Centers, NO-OIDV promotes victim services as a top priority, where victims can report safely, seek necessary services, counseling and protection. Programs, such as the Crystal Judson Domestic Violence Protocol Program, need to be developed and implemented within individual states in accordance with the Violence Against Women Act, 2005.
These goals can only be accomplished through a national effort, at a national level, with a national spirit of recognition that law enforcement officers are not immune from abuse and need to be held accountable for their actions like all other citizens. Law enforcement officers need to be assisted in their efforts to uphold the positions they have attained in society with the highest of all integrity. Whereas, victims need to be afforded the same rights to health, safety, welfare and protection as anyone else and not treated differently because they have chosen to be in intimate relationships with law enforcement officers.
NO-OIDV challenges society, including law enforcement officers, departments, cities, communities, states and our nation to become involved in the preservation of the rights and humanity of all individuals affected by domestic violence perpetrated by law enforcement officers.
